The National Weather Service has confirmed there were tornadoes last night in Rock Island, Hancock, Warren, McDonough, Sangamon, Peoria and Fulton Counties.
NWS field teams will be investigating the impacted areas over the next few days to determine the exact number and strength of each tornado.
Rock Island County appears to have the most significant damage from the storms, including damage to several homes.
Power outages were also reported as a result of the storms. Staff from IEMA’s regional office is coordinating with local officials to facilitate any requests for state assistance, but there have been no requests at this time.
To help those affected by the tornadoes in Rock Island County:
Donations: The Rapids City Fire Protection District will be accepting donations to aid the families affected by the tornado in the Evergreen Village subdivision and
surrounding areas in rural East Moline. Cash, check, food gift cards and Visa gift cards will allow the families to purchase items that they specifically need. No other donations will be accepted.
Mail or drop off donations to the Port Byron Village Hall between 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. A drop box is available for after-hours donations.

Volunteer: As of 3/16/16, the Rock Island Sheriff’s Department indicates no volunteers are needed at this time.
A volunteer registration team will be set up at the Heritage Center in Hampton, Illinois on Thursday morning (3/17/16).
