What should I do if I filed my return electronically but it does not show up on your refund inquiry system?

  • If you filed your return through a tax professional, you need to contact your tax professional to make sure your return was accepted by the Department.
  • If you used MyTax Illinois to file your return, you should have received a confirmation number as proof of your filing. If you did not receive a confirmation number you must file your Form IL-1040 again.
  • If you used tax preparation software, you should have received a confirmation number as proof of your filing. If you did not receive a confirmation number, you need to check with the software provider to make sure your return was accepted.
