How do I know if I am eligible to activate a MyTax Illinois account?

To set up a MyTax Illinois account, you must

  1. already be registered with the Illinois Department of Revenue to do business in Illinois if you are a business or have a recent history of filing Form IL-1040 individual income tax returns if you are an individual;
  2. have a tax account type currently available in MyTax Illinois; and
  3. know the specific business and individual identification information required for activation.

You will also want to make sure there is not already an active MyTax account for the taxpayer or, if there is, that the Master User has changed their settings to allow new logons. If these conditions are not met, your activation will be denied.
