If my parents claimed me as a dependent on their tax return, can I also claim myself on my return?

If someone claimed you as a dependent on their return for tax year ending December 31, 2018:

For Line 10a:

  • If your Form IL-1040, Line 9, is greater than $2,225, you cannot claim yourself. You will put zero on Line 10a.
  • If your Form IL-1040, Line 9, is less than or equal to $2,225, you can claim yourself.  You will put "$2225.00" on Line 10a.
For more information see the instructions for Form IL-1040.
