What is MyTax Illinois?

MyTax Illinois is a free online account management program that offers a centralized location, provided by the Illinois Department of Revenue, for businesses to register for taxes, file returns, make payments, and manage their tax accounts. Most of these features require the taxpayer to create a MyTax Illinois account. One exception is registering a new business, which must be done before you can create a username and password.

Individuals can file their IL-1040, Individual Income Tax Return, after creating a MyTax Illinois account, and pay their tax without creating a MyTax Illinois account. For more information, see the MyTax Illinois Help Guide.

MyTax Illinois also contains other features that can be used without creating an account, such as looking up tax rates. For lists of these features, go to mytax.illinois.gov and use the “Individuals” or “Searches” panel.
