The mission of the Department of Revenue is to maximize collections of revenues for the state of Illinois and effectively regulate the manufacture, distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages, all in a manner that promotes fair and consistent enforcement of state laws. The primary responsibility of the Department of Revenue is to serve as the tax collection agency for state government and for some taxes for local governments. The department also oversees local property tax assessments, and functions as the funding agent for the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
