This is the final post for the March Motivation Blog Series and we close with a summary of some of the many accomplishments at DoIT in less than a year as an agency. Here are some of the highlights:
Established the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) on July 1, 2016, with all IT personnel officially joining DoIT. Technology staff, formerly working at agencies, continue to serve and be co-located at their originating agencies
Released the first agency Sheltered Market RFP in the area of IT Consulting to promote minority and disadvantaged businesses – vendor announcement coming in April
Launched the first enterprise wide financial platform at four pilot agencies, with another 12 agencies scheduled to roll out in 2017, allowing for greater transparency and efficiency in government operations
Issued the first comprehensive cybersecurity strategy in the State's history, the first enterprise plan to protect all state systems and information from attackers
Secured 5 billion records of sensitive information by working across agencies, boards and commissions to encrypt or remove the records
Introduced enterprise-wide cybersecurity training program for all state employees to empower staff to be the first line of defense against cyber threats
Advanced Going Mobile in Illinois, with over 20 mobile apps and mobile responsive agency sites already launched
Established a statewide data analytics practice and hired Illinois' first data officer, data scientist and data architect – official launch in April
Facilitated an enterprise memorandum of understanding (eMoU) among 13 state agencies for data sharing practices –
Launched next generation web platform for the state, beginning with the new doit.illinois.gov site integrating news, information and social media
Signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India's state of Telangana to collaborate on smart state best practices and international opportunities
Acknowledged by external community as the first state in the nation aspiring to be a "Smarter State" and served as host for two collaborative smart state workshops and released the Smart Street Lighting RFP – details coming soon
Recognized by the Digital States Survey for moving from the bottom fourth to the top third in the nation for technology effectiveness and utilization in government
Introduced a transparent rate structure for products and services to all agencies
Launched the Illinois Blockchain Initiative to capitalize on opportunities for both Illinois businesses and citizens
Established an approach for rapid progress toward shared enterprise applications for common capabilities across Illinois government entities
Created a "borderless culture" through working groups, councils, centers of excellence and advisory boards
Secured a partnership between DoIT's Illinois Century Network (ICN) and the City of Decatur for the construction, management and maintenance of a fiber network
Opened an Innovation Center at the James R. Thompson Center (JRTC) to provide work space for innovative and collaborative projects – Springfield location coming soon
Collaborated with 10 other states and the National Association of Purchasing Officers (NASPO) on the Cloud Services RFP
