Mansion Vegetable Garden

Governor Quinn’s commitment in making Illinois a “green leader” has led to many changes at the Governor’s Mansion. Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s White House vegetable garden, the Governor’s Mansion installed its own vegetable garden during Earth Day 2010. The garden is the most recent effort taken in the “greening” of the mansion. Additionally, the usage of compact fluorescents and the installation of rain barrels have helped make the mansion “greener.” A lot of time, creativity, and hard work went into the installation of the vegetable garden. The Governor would like to thank the following vegetable garden sponsors: University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, Lake Street Landscape Supply, Christy Webber Landscapes, Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Correctional Industries at Menard, Jacksonville FFA, Fiskars Garden and Outdoor Living, and the Boys and Girls Club.
