Patients Continue to Apply for Medical Cannabis Registration
SPRINGFIELD - Approximately 6,300 citizens have started the patient registration process for the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program since the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) began accepting applications on September 2, 2014. Of those, IDPH has received approximately 800 complete applications. IDPH began issuing approval and denial letters two weeks ago.

Regulators Charge Chicago Area Doctor with Cannabis Violations
CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) urges both physicians and members of the public to be cautious about setting up or visiting so-called "medical cannabis clinics." The Department issued this warning in the wake of filing a formal complaint against a physician for violating the Medical Practice Act and the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act. While regulations for growing, dispensing and registering patients for the legal use of medical cannabis were approved by a legislative committee on July 15, no licenses have been issued for growing or dispensing cannabis and no physician certification forms are yet available.

Proposed Rules for Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act Filed
SPRINGFIELD - The state of Illinois today announced that the proposed rules for implementation of the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act have been published in the Illinois Register. The new draft rules include changes from the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA), the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), and will be available for an additional 45 days of public comment until the General Assembly's Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) begins its review. The draft proposed rules have already been posted and available for comment on the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program website for more than 70 days. Over the past several months, the state has heard from people with chronic illnesses, business entrepreneurs, medical cannabis advocates, municipalities and others commenting on the draft proposed rules.

Governor Quinn Signs Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act
With Some of Nation's Strongest Regulations, Law Will Help Ease Pain for People With Chronic Conditions, Cancer Patients and Veterans with Disabilities
CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today signed House Bill 1 - the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act - which will help ease pain for people across Illinois who suffer from debilitating medical conditions. Illinois is now the 21st state to enact such legislation, which includes some of the nation's strongest restrictions on the cultivation, dispensing and use of medical marijuana. Over the years and especially in the past several months, Governor Quinn has heard from veterans, cancer patients and people with chronic illnesses about the importance of this legislation.
