African American Advisory Council
Page Content
The African American Advisory Council assists the Department of Children and Family Services in providing culturally sensitive, appropriate and competent services to African Americans. The Council functions as an advisor to the DCFS Director in provision of services to African American employees, clients and its contractual agents in the following areas: recruitment, employment, community relations and development, and professional development issues.
The council’s by-laws stipulate a membership consisting of a maximum of 31 Department employees. The Council is a statewide organization, with 72 percent of the members from Cook County and 28 percent from the remaining three downstate regions. This formula reflects the proportion of African Americans within Cook and downstate.
Employees may become members by submitting a brief narrative noting their interests in problems and issues affecting African Americans. As vacancies on the Council occur, those individuals who have submitted narratives will be interviewed.
Robin Albritton is the chairperson of the membership committee. For additional information, please contact her at 312-814-5550. The Council has several standing committees for which employee participation is encouraged.
