Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) impact every aspect of our daily lives and the reach of these subjects knows no boundaries across the world. With rapid changes in these areas transforming our global workforce, it is critical that all of our students understand and ideally experience the importance and breadth of STEAM course offerings and digital literacy opportunities through their educational endeavors. DoIT supports all efforts to instill innovation and passion for STEAM in all students beginning with our youngest learners in pre-kindergarten through postsecondary education. DoIT has a vested interest in the development of a digitally literate workforce that cultivates creativity and advances all areas of STEAM.
Tech Prairie STEAM Expo
The Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology hosted the
Tech Prairie STEAM Expo at the 2022 Illinois State Fair from August 17-21, 2022 in the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
The event provided fairgoers with opportunities to experience engaging and interactive demonstrations in the areas of STEAM. More than 45 exhibitors participated, interacted with K-12 students, educators, and visitors, and shared their technologies on the STEAM domains. Roughly 2,500 people joined us this year.

Quantum Research in Illinois
Illinois was chosen to host two of the five new National Quantum Information Science Research Centers led by
Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in affiliation with the University of Chicago.
Each project is projected to received $115 million in federal funding to support breakthroughs inquantum information and science.
Rebuild Illinois capital program, Gov. Pritzker made sure the state invested $200 million in the
Quantum Exchange to put Illinois at the forefront of creating jobs for the next century.
